Our Story
Every great journey begins with a single dog.
For us, that journey started in 2017 when Nala came into our lives. She introduced us to the incredible Golden Retriever temperament—gentle, loyal, intelligent, and endlessly loving. She didn't just become part of our family; she completely changed the way we saw dogs and ignited a passion that would shape our future.
As our family grew, so did our love for the breed. In 2021, we welcomed Kion, a remarkable young boy whose life was heartbreakingly short. Losing him at only 17 months old reminded us how precious every moment with these incredible dogs truly is. Although his time with us was brief, he remains an important part of the Mortonouro story and continues to inspire everything we do today.
In 2023, our dream began to take shape. Chester and Champagne joined our family, while Kiara arrived as a treasured gift. They became the foundation of Mortonouro Golden Retrievers and marked the beginning of our commitment to ethical, preservation-focused breeding.
As we immersed ourselves in the Golden Retriever community, we found mentors among experienced ethical breeders and gained invaluable knowledge through breed education, conformation shows, and gundog events. It became clear that breeding was about far more than producing puppies—it was about preserving and protecting one of the world's most beloved breeds for future generations.
In 2024, Sarabi, our beautiful girl from the renowned Mochavulin kennel, joined our family. Entrusted to us by a dear friend, she represents the exceptional quality, temperament, and breed type that we strive to preserve through our breeding programme.
Then, in 2025, a lifelong dream became reality when Mufasa, our handsome imported boy from Serbia, arrived in South Africa. Bringing an outstanding pedigree and exceptional breed qualities, he became a significant milestone in the future of Mortonouro.
Our journey continued to grow as we welcomed Skylar, another beautiful import from Serbia, adding further depth to our breeding programme with carefully selected international bloodlines. We also proudly welcomed Roxy from the prestigious Tamnavulin kennel, whose outstanding pedigree and wonderful temperament perfectly complement our vision for the future of the breed.
Today, Mortonouro is home to an exceptional family of Golden Retrievers, each carefully selected for their health, temperament, structure, and pedigree. Every dog plays an important role in our commitment to preserving the breed and producing puppies that truly represent the Golden Retriever standard.
Our breeding programme is built on quality rather than quantity. Every planned litter is carefully considered, with comprehensive health testing, thoughtful pedigree research, and the goal of producing healthy, confident, soundly structured Golden Retrievers with beautiful temperaments.
Our puppies are born and raised in our home, where they receive constant love, daily interaction, and purposeful enrichment. From an early age, they are introduced to a variety of sounds, surfaces, play equipment, sensory experiences, and age-appropriate challenges designed to build confidence and prepare them for life with their new families.

As passionate ethical breeders and preservationists, every litter is carefully planned with one goal in mind: to protect and preserve everything that makes the Golden Retriever one of the world's most loved breeds. Every decision we make is guided by health, temperament, structure, and the lifelong wellbeing of every puppy we bring into the world.
Our breeding dogs undergo comprehensive health testing, including DNA screening, hip and elbow evaluations, and eye examinations where appropriate. By carefully researching pedigrees and selecting compatible bloodlines, we strive to produce Golden Retrievers that are healthy, structurally sound, and possess the gentle, stable temperament the breed is renowned for.
Every litter is raised in our home as part of our family. From the very first day, our puppies receive constant love, individual attention, and careful observation to ensure they thrive physically, emotionally, and socially.
As they grow, they are introduced to carefully planned enrichment designed to encourage confidence, curiosity, and resilience. Our puppies explore dedicated play areas featuring different surfaces, climbing equipment, swings, tunnels, wobble boards, sensory toys, and age-appropriate challenges that help develop balance, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
They also experience a wide variety of everyday sights, sounds, people, and gentle handling, helping them build confidence and preparing them for life beyond our home. These early experiences create puppies that adapt more easily to their new families and embrace the world with confidence.
At around seven weeks of age, every puppy undergoes a professional temperament assessment. Rather than allowing families to simply choose a puppy based on appearance, we carefully match each puppy to the lifestyle, experience, and expectations of their future family. This thoughtful matching process helps create lifelong partnerships where both puppy and family can truly thrive.
Our commitment doesn't end when a puppy leaves our home. Every Mortonouro family becomes part of our extended family, and we remain available throughout your dog's lifetime to offer guidance, support, and advice whenever it is needed.
